QHow are 3B-GENOME and 3B-EXOME different from panel testing?
There is a difference in the scope of the analysis.
3B-GENOME looks at all sequences.
3B-EXOME looks at protein-coding regions within 20,000 genes.
Panel looks at selected specific genes.
It is difficult for a panel test to cover all the genes you want, and if new disease-associated genes are discovered, another panel test needs to be done.
Exome and Genome, on the other hand, use the data generated and can be analysed immediately to reflect new genes, so there is no additional sample taken and extra cost.
Rare diseases have a wide range of symptoms, and no single symptom is specific to a disease, so it is hard for clinicians to know which panel to choose.
3billion tests analyse all gene regions, and this makes it highly cost-effective.
