What Wasn't There at First
Seung-woo Ryu & Heonjong Han3billion Medical Geneticist & BI Engineer
We didn’t start with all the systems we rely on today. We built them as the problems appeared.
Will and Austin joined 3billion while many of today’s diagnostic workflows were still taking shape. Different roles, same experience: difficult problems became better systems for the next patient.

When scale became the problem.
Daily reanalysis of more than 10,000 undiagnosed samples once seemed unrealistic. By breaking the problem down and optimizing the system step by step, the team built a workflow that now continues to search for new diagnostic candidates across roughly 50,000 samples.

When there was no playbook.
During 3billion’s first rapid WGS cases and early complex structural variant interpretation, many processes were still being defined. One difficult case could take days to reconstruct and interpret—but those experiences became more systematic approaches for the patients who came next.
What we didn’t have at first, we built along the way.
One workflow, one difficult case, one improvement at a time.
