How does 3billion's test differ from genetic panel testing?
Last modified: July 21, 2022

3billion sequences all protein-coding exon regions of ~20,000 genes, while a panel test sequences a select set of genes. A panel test may be more helpful in the case that the disease-gene association has been proven with clear supporting evidence. However, panel testing is often a one-time service without continuous analysis incorporating new disease-gene findings.

According to the ACMG guidelines, WES is recommended as first-line testing for young patients with developmental disabilities, cognitive impairment, or intellectual disorders, as such symptoms often come from a wide spectrum of disorders.
